FAQ
"How do I know if my child is ready for swim team?" - If your child can swim 50 yards (2 laps or double the length of the YMCA swim test) consecutively without stopping, can swim Freestyle and Backstroke proficiently/legally, and is ready to begin swimming Breaststroke and Butterfly, then swim team is definitely the place for them!
"How can my child join the swim team?" - Set up a time for an evaluation with one of our coaches! If your child aces the evaluation, they can jump on in for practice that day! If not, no problem. Our coaches can offer advice on what level swim lesson will best meet their needs.
"How do I sign up for a swim evaluation to see if my child is ready for swim team?" - Send an email to [email protected] to get that date and time set up.
"What type of goggles and swim suit should I get my child?" - Check out our team store online for everything will need!
"Where do I get the swim team cap?" - You will have to purchase this at our front desk. After asking for the receipt, give it to one of the coaches and we will hand deliver the cap to you or your swimmer.
"How do I sign up for swim team?" - Either call or visit our front desk to sign up.
"How long are the sessions and what time/days are the practices?" - Each "session" you're purchasing is month-to-month and will require repurchasing each month. The practices are each Tuesdays and Thursday at a specific time dependent on which skill level your swimmer is at.
"Do practices still happen in bad weather?" - If the facility is open, practice is on! However, the pool closes if lightening strikes within an 8-mile radius of the Y. Decisions will not be made to cancel practice in anticipation for weather. If the pool is closed due to storm 30 minutes before practice, a notification will be sent out via Swimtopia. If the pool is closed for part of practice, but is later cleared to reopen, practice is back on for whatever time is left on the schedule!
"My child is on the swim team! How do I sign up for a SwimTopia account?" - Great question! If you want to stay in the know and be able to sign up for swim meets, SwimTopia is a must! Send you childs name and DOB, as well as your preferred email username through our contact page and we'll create you an account!
